During this warm and personal visit you will get to know our friendly huskies, reindeer and horses, guided by local guide, who will share fascinating stories about daily life with the animals and traditions of Lapland.
This experience is perfect for families, couples and anyone who wants to enjoy Lapland at a relaxed pace.
After the guided tour, relax and enjoy some extra time at our glass igloo or by the campfire shelter. We’ll provide everything you need to make a fire, along with juice and a sweet treat.

Horseback Ride To Wilderness Hut
Step into the calm of the northern forest and enjoy nature on horseback. This gentle ride suits everyone, from beginners to experienced riders.
We follow quiet forest trails to a wilderness hut, where the horses rest outside while guests relax by the fire. Enjoy a traditional Finnish break with grilled sausages, cinnamon buns, and warm berry juice. Led by an experienced guide and calm horses, this private experience for two is safe, relaxing, and requires no previous riding experience.

Reindeer Walk To Glass Igloo
A slow, immersive nature experience where guests move gently through the forest alongside reindeer – calm, quiet, and fully present.
Meet the reindeer and begin a peaceful walk through soft forest trails, sharing one reindeer between two guests.
After approx. 1 km, the experience continues at a glass igloo in the wilderness. By the fire, guests prepare traditional Finnish pancakes with the guide and enjoy warm berry juice. Seasonal foraging (berries, mushrooms, plants) adds a local, authentic touch.

Life on the Ranch
Jänkä Resort guests are invited to meaningful interactions with our animals. Participate in daily care—brushing, feeding, or simply sharing quiet moments. There’s no expectation to ride or drive, just the chance to connect with the animals on their terms.
The Ranch is located next to our Jänkä Resort in Ylläs. Resort’s villas are thoughtfully placed to offer uninterrupted views, some open to the Ranch, where you can watch the quiet rhythm of animal life unfold. See more about all of our villas.
At Jänkä Resort, nature sets the pace. Here, humans and animals connect through trust and respect. More than pets, our animals are partners and teachers, seeing us beyond words. We ensure our animals live in natural environments, with their well-being always coming first. At our Ranch, animals are at the heart of the experience—not just part of a tourist attraction.
Horses: Strength and serenity
Our primary breed is the Finnish Horse—a resilient, cold-blooded breed adapted to Finland’s demanding winters. Known for strength and reliability, the Finnish Horse has been a steadfast companion throughout history, even serving in wartime.
These horses are naturally suited to Arctic conditions, with thick winter coats that keep them warm even in freezing temperatures. They live outdoors as much as possible, adapting to seasonal changes as they would in the wild.
More than anything, our horse experiences emphasize the power of stillness and presence. When you slow down and connect with a horse, the interaction becomes profound—it’s not about what you do, but what you feel in their presence.
The Deep Connection Between Reindeer and Lapland
Reindeer are integral to Lapland’s history. Originally, reindeer were essential for survival, providing food, warmth, and transport. Over time, their resilience became evident—they endure extreme cold, carry goods, and navigate harsh Arctic terrains.
Their exceptionally warm fur was used for clothing, and bones repurposed for shelter-building. Every part of the reindeer was utilized, forging a deep, enduring bond between humans and reindeer—a connection that still exists today. Our Ranch is home to approximately 20 reindeer.
The huskies of the Ranch
Our Ranch is home to 30 huskies—primitive working dogs that live to run. Huskies are independent, driven by their natural instincts rather than a desire to please. They thrive on activity; their happiest moments are when they’re pulling and running. Cold weather is essential for them, as history has shaped them to flourish in Arctic conditions.
Visitors may have the chance to interact with the huskies, offering them pets, scratches, and treats. If there happens to be a litter of puppies, guests might get a special glimpse of them alongside the adult huskies in a relaxed, natural setting.
