VISIT our ranch – DAILY tour at 1pm
Join a guided visit to the Jänkä Ranch and get to know the animals that are part of everyday life at the resort. During the tour, you’ll learn about the horses, reindeer and huskies, along with stories and fun facts shared by our guides. Guests also have the opportunity to feed the reindeer and observe the animals up close in a relaxed, respectful setting. The experience concludes by the fire with warm juice and roasted marshmallows. The visit typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on the animals’ rhythm and the interests of the guests. We are not in a hurry. Prices; 39€ per child, 59€ per adult.

Experience the magic of Lapland’s spring with the horse. Enjoy the atmosphere of the village of Äkäslompolo, surrounded by stunning scenery. This special April tour travels through the landscapes of Äkäslompolo village, offering a unique combination of local charm and the peace of nature.
After the ride, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the restaurant of Jänkä Resort.
The tour is designed for riders with previous riding experience who want to enjoy horseback riding in a safe yet adventurous environment.

Jänkä Resort guests are invited to meaningful interactions with our animals. Participate in daily care—brushing, feeding, or simply sharing quiet moments. There’s no expectation to ride or drive, just the chance to connect with the animals on their terms.

We ensure our animals live in natural environments, with their well-being always coming first. At our Ranch, animals are at the heart of the experience—not just part of a tourist attraction.
Horses: Strength and serenity
Our primary breed is the Finnish Horse—a resilient, cold-blooded breed adapted to Finland’s demanding winters. Known for strength and reliability, the Finnish Horse has been a steadfast companion throughout history, even serving in wartime.
These horses are naturally suited to Arctic conditions, with thick winter coats that keep them warm even in freezing temperatures. They live outdoors as much as possible, adapting to seasonal changes as they would in the wild.
More than anything, our horse experiences emphasize the power of stillness and presence. When you slow down and connect with a horse, the interaction becomes profound—it’s not about what you do, but what you feel in their presence.
The Deep Connection Between Reindeer and Lapland
Reindeer are integral to Lapland’s history. Originally, reindeer were essential for survival, providing food, warmth, and transport. Over time, their resilience became evident—they endure extreme cold, carry goods, and navigate harsh Arctic terrains.
Their exceptionally warm fur was used for clothing, and bones repurposed for shelter-building. Every part of the reindeer was utilized, forging a deep, enduring bond between humans and reindeer—a connection that still exists today. Our Ranch is home to approximately 20 reindeer.
The huskies of the Ranch
Our Ranch is home to 30 huskies—primitive working dogs that live to run. Huskies are independent, driven by their natural instincts rather than a desire to please. They thrive on activity; their happiest moments are when they’re pulling and running. Cold weather is essential for them, as history has shaped them to flourish in Arctic conditions.
Visitors may have the chance to interact with the huskies, offering them pets, scratches, and treats. If there happens to be a litter of puppies, guests might get a special glimpse of them alongside the adult huskies in a relaxed, natural setting.

HOw to GET to Jänkä Ranch?
You can arrive by car, taxi, skiing, biking or by foot.
There is a ski bus stop (Karila) approximately 800 meters from the Resort, and the village center is about 2.5 km away by foot. In winter, you can also reach us by skiing. Please note that snowmobiles are not allowed to access the resort area.
Can we visit the ranch independently without a guide?
No. The ranch area is reserved for guided visits only. It is home to our animals, and we want to ensure their wellbeing and calm environment.
Do I need to book the ranch visit in advance?
Yes, all ranch visits must be booked in advance. You can book the visit here.
Is the ranch visit suitable for children and babies?
Yes. The visit is suitable for families.
Children under 3 years old can join free of charge. A participation fee applies to guests aged 3 and above.
Is the ranch visit physically demanding?
No. The program is accessible and suitable for guests with limited mobility. There are no difficult obstacles, and the pace is calm.
Can we feed the animals?
Yes, feeding is possible as part of the guided visit and always with the guide’s permission. Independent feeding is not allowed.
What is the maximum group size for a ranch visit?
The maximum group size is 16 guests to ensure a peaceful and personal experience.
In which language is the ranch visit conducted?
Our main language is English.
We also offer tours in Finnish, and depending on the guide’s language skills, possibly in other languages.
